Glens first catch!

After Glen watching another Harris Hawk catch a pheasant, he has decided to get his own one! He has had a massive 500m chase of the pheasant (in flight!) before catching it as it dashed in to cover. A male pheasant is a very hard thing for a young Harris Hawk to get and for Glen to have it as his first catch, its amazing!!!

Here's a pic of how I found him and a pic of him having his well deserved lunch.

Team work pays off

It has now been a month and a half since Glen flew free for the first time, and today he worked together with a older female Harris Hawk to catch a pheasant.

Glen flew forward past the pheasant (possibly unknown to him), and caused it to move directly in to the path of the other waiting Hawk! She then pounced down on to the pheasant, and both Glen and Lady (the name of the other Hawk) shared a good meal.

He's still got a lot to learn before I think he will get his first catch.

Update

Glen's doing realy well, he's chasing most things that move, sticks, pigeons, a pheasant or two. But still not caught anything yet. He did find a dead rabbit but it was at least 4 days dead.

And a new pic of him out and about.

My bird now has a name,

The countdown begins

In just over two weeks time I will be getting my Harris Hawk, and can start updating the blog!
I've got the housing done and ready for a bird, its even been tested out by another Hawk!

I just don't know what to call him yet!
